PCB Quality Control

The Basics of PCB Quality Control & Inspection

Quality control and inspection routines are the cornerstones of PCB production. Here’s a helpful guide to understanding the basics of these processes in simple steps!

Ensuring quality control and inspection for printed circuit boards (PCBs) is essential to their proper functioning. This guide provides an overview of the basic strategies used, from measuring electrical resistance during pre-assembly to visual checks during final post-assembly scrutiny.

By understanding the processes and procedures involved, you’ll be able to ensure all your PCBs meet your exacting standards before they hit the end-user’s hands.

PCB Solderability Standards

PCB (printed circuit board) is divided into rigid PCB and flexible PCB, divided into three types:

  • Single-sided PCB
  • Double-sided PCB
  • Multi-layer PCB

According to the quality level, it is divided into three quality levels:

  • Category  1
  • Category  2
  • Category  3

Differences in quality levels will result in differences in testing and inspection methods. Rigid double-sided PCBs and multi-layer PCBs account for relatively large applications in electronics, and flexible PCBs are sometimes applied in some cases.
Quality inspection is an important guarantee of product quality and the smooth implementation of follow-up procedures.
