What Is The RoHS Directive?
(Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive) abbreviated RoHS is an environmental directive (not restricted by law) passed by the European Union in February 2003.
Restrictions on the use of certain hazardous substances in electronic and electrical equipment
The Original Directive 2002/95/Ec, Known as RoHS, Specified Restrictions Related to Six Main Hazardous Substances:
Lead (Pb) – for printed circuit boards
Mercury (Hg) – used in the lighting and automotive industries
Cadmium (Cd) – for plastic pigmentation and photovoltaic cells
Hexavalent chromium (CR VI) – used to prevent metal corrosion
Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) – used in flame retardants
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) – for flame retardants
On 2015/03/31, the European Union Issued a Directive to Add 4 New Restrictions on the Number of Phthalates (Plasticizers):
Di(ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) (0.1%)
Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP) (0.1%)
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) (0.1%)
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) (0.1%)
This directive will be implemented on 2019/07/22, while medical equipment and monitoring equipment (including industrial monitoring equipment) will be implemented on 2021/07/22.
