The Importance of PCB Conformal Coating Inspection

 

Within the rapidly expanding electronics industry, inspection of conformal coatings on PCBs has become vastly important to provide the necessary combination of high performance and dependability within a variety of electronic devices. Not only vital to the automotive, military, aerospace, lighting, marine, industrial and green energy industries, conformal coatings have also found their way into domestic and mobile electronics.

The inspection of conformal coated circuit boards is a critical process that should be carried out after the coating process and manual inspection is still the main method utilized. Meeting the acceptance criteria however, requires careful inspection of the entire PCB which can be an extremely difficult job due to factors such as eye strain, concentration drift, and throughput considerations.

The iQ ESD Daylight & UV Magnifier

 

Daylight Company has announced the introduction of a new lighting solution, independently certified for use in electrostatic protected areas – meeting both the IEC 61340-5-1 and ANSI/ESD 20:20.

The new iQ ESD Daylight & UV Magnifier is an ESD-safe magnifier with the ability to conduct inspection of PCBs via daylight (6,000K / 95+ CRI) with 2 brightness levels and UV-A (365nm) illumination. As plastic diffusers can deteriorate over time, leading to a reduced UV output, Daylight Company UV LEDs are specifically made from metal reflectors to ensure longevity and consistent performance.

The 100% ESD-safe magnifier provides full protection against static and ensures complete ESD safety in electrostatic protected areas. The magnifying lamp features a spring balanced arm and free motion head joint which allow a range of movements- forwards, backwards, left, right, up and down and 220° rotation of the head. This enables the magnifying lamp to be positioned exactly where required in the working environment.

The optical glass lens of the iQ ESD Daylight & UV Magnifier is 7 inches (17.5cm) in diameter. The only ESD-safe lens of this size, with an ESD coating on both sides of the lens, giving full ESD safety.

iQ ESD Daylight & UV Magnifier, offers magnification of 3 diopter (1.75X) main lens and the 12 diopter (4X) swing arm magnifier. Ergonomically designed to move the lens into the middle of the head to get a very close look at your work, and move to the side when not required.

With a 46 inch (118cm) reach, the light can be positioned where needed. Designed with a steel arm and the head and joint containing carbon fiber makes them exceptionally strong and permanently ESD-safe.
